TTP’s Latest Little Outing - first instalment…

Hello!! I am Patrick, a new and excited member of TTP. I am in charge of taking the production Mr Loveday’s Little Outing to the Fringe this summer, as writer, actor (cameoing as the Doctor), co-director (with M-C Dollard), and producer (with the legendary Ali Blackwell as mentor).

So, I adapted (rather liberally) the Evelyn Waugh short story of the same name into the script we’ve got. At the moment the script is undergoing a major rewrite after the read-through flagged up a few concerns – but don’t worry it’s all under control! Indeed, the final product will be countless times better once I’m done. (Essentially, I have added considerably to the plot as a result of scrapping one character, and replacing him with a completely different one.)

As soon as I’ve got the whole thing knocked back into some sort of shape vaguely resembling a play, rehearsals will commence! What with exams looming (and more importantly, sunbathing weather reaching North Yorkshire!), the company’s time will soon be very limited, but I am hopeful and aim to get through as much of the material as possible before the troupe disperses to the various gallivanting adventures – before the reunion for the intensive rehearsal period directly preceding the performances.

Once the script is finalised (although it will constantly be updated as we rehearse), I will really get to grips with the staging concepts, although of course I’ve got loads of ideas to work with – just need to try them out to see what works! The technicalities of the production will be the most novel part of the experience for me – incidentally, is there a willing volunteer to act as lighting/sound-operator (and save us the £10 a performance cost of hiring a venue-provided techie)?? Please get in touch if you are that person, and get excited about joining the exciting world that is “TTP @ the Fringe”!!

Other concerns at the moment involve marketing and fundraising. We are yet to finalise our flyer/poster design, but aim to have something within a week – got a couple of wacky and striking ideas, but you’ll have to wait and see… We’re also getting balloons and t-shirts to help sell our show while up in Edinburgh. We’re also placing adverts in various arts publications. The respected Evelyn Waugh Newsletter & Journal has mentioned us in the most recent edition, and Evelyn Waugh fans are talking about us, with a considerable number already looking for tickets!

As for fundraising, we’ve got a number of exciting initiatives underway, including a party (dress code: come dressed as either of our fabulous actresses!), a guess-the-teddy-bear’s-name competition, a raffle, a retiring collection at play performances, and a run (undertaken by the three athletic actors, and Will Ramsden) from Ampleforth Abbey to York Minster (a distance of 28.6 miles – that’s more than a marathon…) – daunting!Check out other areas of this site for all the cool info about TTP’s history, recent and current projects. There are cast and crew biographies and pictures, and details about performance dates and times for the Fringe.

Do please get in touch with me about anything- my address is: patrick@ttproductions.com – looking forward to hearing from you!!
